MIC Offers Wide-ranging and In-depth WiMAX Research
Dr. Victor Tsan, Vice President and General Director, Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute 2009-05-08
Taiwan is making significant gains in WiMAX development in 2009. Following the establishment of IOT (Interoperability Testing) labs by major global WiMAX vendors NEC, Alcatel-Lucent, and Motorola in Taiwan, there has been significant progress in the development of WiMAX in Taiwan. Tatung Telecom launched its commercial WiMAX service in Penghu County at the end of April 2009, and Far EasTone Telecommunications plans to start offering trial service in May, while Vee Telecom Multimedia and Global Mobile have signed separate agreements with Clearwire of the United States for collaboration on WiMAX. The maturation of Taiwan's WiMAX ecosystem can be seen in these developments, and the commercial operations of WiMAX networks in Taiwan are expected to serve as important references for global WiMAX carriers and Taiwanese WiMAX CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) manufacturers. According to research by the Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), Taiwanese WiMAX CPE industry shipment volume reached approximately 264,000 units in the first quarter of 2009. With large-scale deployment of WiMAX networks underway in Japan, Malaysia, Russia, and India, as well as the commencement of trial or commercial operations by major WiMAX carriers worldwide, it is expected that Taiwanese WiMAX CPE shipment volume will see steady growth in 2009. MIC has been dedicated to the research of global ICT software and hardware technologies and markets for more than 20 years. Thus far, MIC has published a total of 57 WiMAX-related research reports and compiled more than 200 news updates on the latest development of WiMAX in Asia. For international companies interested in the development of WiMAX, MIC's WiMAX research has not only provided insight into the latest trends of the global WiMAX industry and WiMAX business opportunities in emerging markets, but also increased awareness of Taiwan's WiMAX R&D capabilities.
