WiMAX Forum Taipei Showcase and Conference took center stage in the Taipei International Convention Center from October 22~23, 2007. The event logged more than 3,000 local and international visitors, and by all accounts was a great success. The two day event kicked off with opening remarks from Dr. Johnsee Lee, President of ITRI, Ron Resnick, President of the WiMAX Forum, and Dr. Fern-ching Lin, Minister of State, Executive Yuan. There was a grand ribbon-cutting ceremony that delighted all with an excellent aborigine drum performance. |

One of the many highlights of the two day event was when Dr. Ching-Tarng Hsieh, Engineering Director, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) presided over a press conference that announced a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and five global telecom suppliers. The memorandum states that these five companies will help Taiwan build a WiMAX wireless broadband infrastructure on the island. The five telecom equipment manufacturers, Alcatel-Lucent, Motorola Inc. Sprint Nextel Corp., Nokia-Siemens Networks, and Starent Networks Corporation, will also sell core network and base stations to local firms and jointly develop solutions and business opportunities. The 2007 WiMAX Forum Taipei Showcase included over 50 exhibitors exhibiting in 100 booths. The showcase consisted of two pavilions, the M-Taiwan Pavilion, the WiMAX Forum Pavilion, and four areas, the WiMAX System Products Area, the WiMAX Testing Area, WiMAX Components Area, and WiMAX Applications Area. Visitors to the showcase expressed satisfaction with the live demonstrations presented by world's most renowned system and chipset vendors. Exhibits also included complete end to end solutions and highlighted the very latest development test cases including IOT, RCT and PCT. Visitors were also able to witness the most up-to-date WiMAX technology and marketing trends all under one roof. The WiMAX Forum was attended by many government officials, and global industry and operator leaders. The forum offered an unprecedented opportunity to exchange ideas on worldwide policies and regulations, shared lessons learned from WiMAX deployment, and explored beneficial business opportunities. The 2007 WiMAX Forum Taipei Conference included a one and half day program. On day 1, there were 3 sessions, State of WiMAX Forum, WiMAX Application Services and WiMAX Technology Development. The attendees explored the value of WiMAX, as well as business models, applications, solutions, and best practices through the chairman of WiMAX Forum working groups, and CEOs and Executives from major WiMAX operators or vendors. Day 2 of the conference was the first time that the WiMAX Forum member conference General Assembly was open to the public. This forum successfully shared the latest information such as the status of mobile certification, certification labs, and the MTWAL (M-Taiwan WiMAX Application Lab), as well having heard from distinguished keynote speakers from the government and the industry. |
